Dr. Andrew K. Jong

Dr. Jong’s interest in biology along with his desire to become a health care professional is what led him to become an optometrist. He was born in Wichita, Kansas where his parents currently reside after moving from Taiwan in 1963. Having learned to speak Taiwanese as a child, he is able to speak the language fluently. Dr. Jong attended the University of Kansas, where he obtained a bachelor’s degree in biology. He earned his doctorate of optometry from the University of California at Berkeley.

Dr. Jong completed optometry externships at the Sacramento V.A. Eye Clinic in Sacramento, CA; Heritage Park Vision Source in Midwest City, OK; Laservue Refractive Surgery Center in Orlando, FL; and the Magruder Eye Institute in Orlando, FL. Dr. Jong conducted research in the area of binocular vision, in an attempt to determine why some individuals are unable to obtain a three-dimensional image when viewing through the slit lamp biomicroscope.

Today, Dr. Jong works at Laser Eye Center alongside Dr. Abraham Shammas, Laser Eye Center’s Chief Refractive Surgeon, and an experienced group of optometrists to thoroughly examine and manage patients who are interested in improving their vision with refractive procedures such as LASIK, PRK, Lens Implants, Cataracts Treatment, and Pterygium removal.

Since he began working at the Laser Eye Center, Dr. Jong has had the opportunity to expand his knowledge about LASIK and refractive surgery. He firmly believes that LASIK is a very exciting procedure and is glad to be able to play an essential role in the pre-operative and post-operative care of patients.

In his free time, Dr. Jong enjoys playing tennis, baseball, and football, watching sports, and playing the piano and guitar. He is an avid lover of the Atlanta Braves, the Dallas Cowboys and the Kansas Jayhawks basketball team. He has traveled to most regions of the United States, as well as to Central Europe. Dr. Jong has lived in the Midwest and on the West coast, and has experienced firsthand the difference in culture and environment of both these areas.
