Dr. Richard R. Elhaj

Dr. Richard R. Elhaj grew up in Southern California. While attending UCLA, he performed neurobiology research alongside Dr. C.R. Gallistel. He graduated Cum Laude from UCLA in 1997 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology. He then immediately began his studies to become a Doctor of Optometry.

During his Optometric schooling, Dr. Elhaj completed a study involving visual motor reaction times in adults. His externship training was completed at the Veterans Administration Hospital in West Los Angeles, where ocular disease diagnosis and management was emphasized. He also completed a rotation at the Optometric Center of Los Angeles, where he honed his contact lens fitting, pediatric, low vision, and vision therapy skills. In the Spring of 2001, Dr. Elhaj graduated Salutatorian of the prestigious Doctor of Optometry program at SCCO.

Shortly after graduation, Dr. Elhaj joined the team of doctors at Laser Eye Center. There, he is able to provide full scope Optometric care to patients undergoing refractive and pterygium surgeries (including LASIK and PRK). He also helped spearhead the company’s Specialty Contact Lens Fitting Program, where patients with corneal conditions, such as Keratoconus, are fit with rigid gas-permeable contact lenses. Helping participate in successful visual outcomes and seeing the difference it has made in these patients’ lives has proven to be very fulfilling.

When not engaged in patient care, Dr. Elhaj spends time with his family and friends. He also enjoys swimming, as well as playing tennis and basketball.
