Conditions
Myopia, or nearsightedness, is the most widespread refractive error of the eye. If you are nearsighted, you naturally will have difficulty reading road signs and seeing distant objects clearly, but you will be able to see well for close-up tasks such as reading and computer use. Other signs and symptoms of myopia include squinting, eye strain and headaches. Feeling fatigued when driving or playing sports also can be a symptom of uncorrected nearsightedness.

LASIK FAQ
1.
Is LASIK or PRK safe?
Since being approved by the FDA in 1995, laser vision correction surgery is held as the safest medical procedure available today. Complications are very rare with a rate estimated between 0.2 and 2 percent, according to the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO). By choosing our trusted LASIK center that has a strong track record and the latest technology, you know you are in good hands.
Recent studies have shown more than twenty million patients around the world have opted for LASIK surgery to improve their vision and get rid of corrective eyewear for good. After you have been evaluated for Modern LASIK and you are determined a candidate for the procedure, you will be treated at one of our facilities here in Southern California. Anesthetic drops will be placed onto the eyes, and one of our seasoned LASIK surgeons will create a protective flap using our state-of-the-art laser technology. With pinpoint accuracy, pulses of laser light will then reshape the inner layer of the cornea to improve your vision. This second laser is so precise, it can divide one grain of sand into 1,000 precise pieces! The flap is then replaced.
This gives you the comfort of relaxing and trusting that we will go to every expense & action to provide you with the highest levels of safety and science for your very best advantage to vision.
2.
Is LASIK painful?
Not at all! By choosing the latest groundbreaking technology, you gain on speed, safety, and accuracy — and the LASIK procedure is over in seconds! The best platform in the field is by far Johnson & Johnson’s IFS femtosecond laser in combination with Alcon’s Wavelight EX500. Be sure to ask our eye care center about all-laser solutions.
Modern LASIK treatment is virtually painless, and the laser procedure itself typically takes under a few minutes to complete with most patients experiencing dramatic improvement in vision just one day after the procedure!
3.
How soon can I return to work?
Most patients are able to resume normal activity the day following the procedure! It is really that quick!
4.
What is bladeless LASIK?
In contrast to conventional Los Angeles-based vision care providers, our surgeons have been exclusively performing All Laser or bladeless LASIK since 2001! This procedure creates the corneal flap typical of the first step of LASIK using computer-controlled laser pulses that are tailored to the optimal depth and position of your eye to gently separate the outer layer of the cornea from the layer being treated. All Laser LASIK is a tremendous technological leap as compared to conventional or micro-keratome LASIK, which creates the corneal flap using a hand-held blade. The result is exceptional surgical precision, accuracy, and safety.
5.
Am I a candidate for LASIK?
- Candidates must be over 18.
- Candidates must have no diseases or health issues of the eyes, including cataracts or glaucoma.
- Candidates must have had a stable vision prescription for at least a year.
6.
What sort of preparation is required for LASIK?
WEEKS BEFORE SURGERY
- If you wear contact lenses, you will need to stop wearing them and switch to glasses prior to surgery. This is because contact lenses can distort the shape of your cornea and affect surgical results.
- If you wear soft contacts, stop wearing them two weeks prior to surgery.
- If you wear rigid gas permeable (GP) contact lenses, stop wearing them three to four weeks prior to surgery.
THE DAY BEFORE LASIK SURGERY
- Carefully remove all makeup, mascara, eyeliner and lotions from the area around the eyes.
- Use artificial tears to flush any debris from your eyes.
- Arrange for a loved one to drive you to and from our office after the procedure.
MORNING OF SURGERY
- Do not apply makeup, face lotions or perfume or cologne.
- If you take medications, continue to do so on the day of surgery, unless you are directed otherwise by our Modern LASIK surgeon.
