Since 1986, Dr. Abraham Shammas has been a leader in the refractive surgery field and has played a vital role in the development and growth of Laser Eye Center™. As the dedicated President of Laser Eye Center™, Dr. Shammas consistently provides patients with the highest standard of care, earning him high accolades for his work.
Dr. Shammas has performed well over 85,000 successful procedures earning him several esteemed awards. His awards include the Centurion Surgeon and Quality of Vision Award for his excellence in care and expertise. As Chief Refractive Surgeon, Dr. Shammas strives for perfection by being on the cutting edge of the latest LASIK treatments. He screens his patients meticulously, ensuring that they receive the necessary pre-operative screening for a successful outcome.
Dr. Shammas’ excellent work ethic results in a low number of enhancements or touch-ups. Furthermore, in a public opinion poll conducted by the Orange County Register, Laser Eye Center™ was voted the #1 LASIK Center for five consecutive years.
Coming from a family of Ophthalmologists, it was apparent that Dr. Shammas would follow the family tradition. His journey began when he received his undergraduate degree and Doctor of Medicine at the American University in Lebanon, where he additionally completed his internship and residency in Ophthalmology. He then completed his Fellowship in Glaucoma at the Estelle Doheny Eye Foundation at the University of Southern California. Dr. Shammas has held academic appointments as an assistant Professor in Clinical Ophthalmology and Director of Glaucoma Service at Texas Tech University and White Memorial Medical Center in Los Angeles.
Dr. Shammas believes, in addition to experience, high quality of vision correction achieved is the essence to a successful practice. Going beyond 20/20 is his goal. In order to deliver the most advanced technology, Dr. Shammas requires continuous study. To date, he has received numerous refractive-surgery certifications, including:

Dr. Shammas is affiliated with the American Academy of Ophthalmology and Doheny USC Professionals Association. He is an active member of the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons (ASCRS) and a prior member of the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology. He is further listed in the Who’s Who in Medicine.
Dr. Shammas has published several articles and abstracts relating to Ophthalmology. He conducts Grand Rounds quarterly with his fellow physicians and optometrists to further educate and discuss new treatment options for patients.
Dr. Shammas’ wife, Malak, is also a physician specializing in Internal Medicine. They have a son and two daughters. Both Dr. Shammas and his wife enjoy world travel to destinations rich in culture and adventure.
