Dr. Tony Nguyen
Dr. Tony Nguyen was born and raised in Orange County, CA. While obtaining his Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from the University of California, Irvine, Dr. Nguyen’s interest in the eye care profession was sparked due to his desire to help others and his affinity to the healthcare field.
Dr. Nguyen then attended the Illinois College of Optometry and after four memorable years in Chicago, Dr. Nguyen graduated having been honored with the Trustee Scholarship Award. Dr. Nguyen’s externship training included diagnosing and managing ocular diseases at the University of Chicago Duchossois Center for Advanced Medicine, assisting and treating the veteran population at the Veteran’s Affairs Health Care Systems in Daytona Beach, Florida and in Hudson Valley, New York and caring for the pediatric population with an emphasis on binocular vision at the Illinois Eye Institute.
Dr. Nguyen developed a special interest in the field of refractive surgery and joined the Laser Eye Center in 2005 to pursue his interest. He works alongside Dr. Abraham Shammas, Laser Eye Center’s Chief Refractive Surgeon, and an experienced group of optometrists to thoroughly examine and manage patients who are interested in improving their vision with refractive procedures such as LASIK, PRK, lens implants and pterygium removal.
As an enthusiastic champion of the optometric profession, he has been an active member of numerous organizations including the American Optometric Association, California Optometric Society, Orange County Optometric Society and the Asian American Optometric Association.
Dr. Nguyen resides in Orange County with his wife and two children. He is an active member of his community and has been a volunteer of My Refuge House, a non-profit organization his wife founded for sheltering abused women and children in the Philippines. During his free time he enjoys cooking, watching classic movies and spending time with his family.
