Are you looking for the best cataract surgeon in Los Angeles? Our talented team at Laser Eye Center™ is here to help. Our eye surgeons have years of experience quickly and painlessly removing cataracts to help improve the vision of our patients in Southern California.
What is a cataract & how is it treated?
Cataract is a medical condition in which the lens of the eye becomes progressively cloudy causing blurred vision. The initial symptoms of cataracts include glare from light sources at night and a pronounced reduction of visual clarity in low-light situations.
To treat this condition, the lens inside the eye that has become cloudy is removed and replaced with an artificial lens (called an “intraocular lens” or “IOL”) to restore clear vision.
Laser Cataract Surgery
Cataract surgery has undergone major advances in recent years since the days your mom and dad had the procedure. Part of the normal aging process, a cataract occurs when the natural lens in your eye becomes cloudy; and, if left untreated, a cataract can lead to blindness.
At Laser Eye Center™, we have invested in the most sophisticated laser cataract platform that combines computer controlled laser technology with advanced 3D-imaging. Our laser precisely determines the size and shape of the incision as well as enhances premium lens placement to deliver the highest standards of accuracy and safety.
The laser cataract surgery procedure has a very high rate of success with few, if any, complications. A small incision is made to facilitate lens removal without the need for sutures. The clouded natural lens is removed and discarded through a process called cataract extraction, leaving behind the lens capsule. At this point, a new clear, synthetic lens, called an intraocular lens (IOL), is implanted into the lens capsule. The IOL remains permanently inside the eye.
Today, cataract surgery is performed in the comfort of our top of the line facility and is fully customized to meet your unique visual needs. Most important for you, the treatment is completely painless, lasts less than 15 minutes, and most patients see significantly better the very next day!
Are all cataract procedures created equal?
Absolutely not! Initially, the treatment for cataracts was based on a one-size-fits all approach, wherein a standard single-focus lens was implanted. However, at Laser Eye Center™ we offer a variety of cutting edge lens types that we have termed ‘Designer Lenses’ so that you may regain clear vision at all distances and light conditions.
Should you wait to have Cataract surgery?
No! As cataracts will continue to worsen over time, the result is progressively declining vision with the potential for blindness. With today’s most advanced methods, favorable outcomes from treatment of cataracts are achieved in 98% of cases.
How important is experience and technology?
Since cataract treatment is a one-time only procedure (in other words the cataract does not return), it is imperative to study the varied treatments available and choose a trustworthy center that has the technical capabilities and experience to address your unique needs.
Intraocular lenses (IOLs) are implants that are placed inside the eye to replace the eye’s natural lens when it is removed during cataract surgery. Historically, IOLs were all single-focus lenses (conventional) until 2003. This means that distance vision could be improved with the IOL, but reading glasses were still necessary to see up close.
Today, we now benefit from advanced technology implants for people who want to enjoy clear distance, intermediate, AND near vision without glasses! We also have designer lenses that can treat those patients who have astigmatism, which was not possible in the past. These lifestyle designer lenses give us more options and range of focus to achieve better clarity and quality of life.
Our state of the art cataract technology platform uses a variety of lenses that improve vision at all distances and in all light conditions. We offer a wide variety of premium IOLs from which to choose depending on your unique lifestyle and specific visual needs. These IOLs are termed ‘premium or designer’ since they have advanced features beyond those found in basic single vision IOLs typically covered by Medicare and other types of health insurance.
The Latest in IOLs – The Symfony Intraocular Lens
We are proud to introduce the newest designer lens technology known as the Symfony intraocular lens (IOL). Standard multifocal IOLs offer correction for near and distance, but not for all points in between. They also have limitations such as glare and halo around objects at night.
In comparison, the Symfony lens boasts no drop off in vision at intermediate distances, meaning that the quality of vision will remain consistent over a wide range of viewing conditions. Additionally, the Symfony lens improves vision quality, mitigating the concerns pertaining to loss of contrast, halos, glare and nighttime dysphotopsia, which may be experienced by some patients with the traditional multifocal IOLs.
The Symfony lens offers improved, clearer, and continuous vision adaptation.
